If I enter “li” in the filter box in the Elements Panel, I see:

Reference

Line

Hyperlink

Line chart

List

Arrow Line

Why is “Reference” shown?

I made a custom element called “Drop-down”. When I enter “dr” in the filter I also get the ComboBox. I guess that is because the ComboBox is tagged with “Drop down list”, but that does not explain why the Reference is shown in the previous example.

Every element has some internal keywords for filtering. Reference has “link” keyword so it is listed.

It is better to input a complete word to make the filtering, such as “line” or “list”.

The keywords are not shown anywhere in the UI, right?

If so, then the filter should not work on those keywords.

They are shown if you choose “Use Big Element Button” option in the settings. They are not shown when you use small element button (by default) just because there is no room for that.

The filter feature is to help user to find out the elements faster, it is better to have more potential keyword to match the element, even the keyword is not shown.

I just selected “Use big element button”, but all I see is the name, “Reference” for instance. I don’t see the keyword “Link”.

“The filter feature is to help user to find out the elements faster, it is better to have more potential keyword to match the element, even the keyword is not shown.”

The more keywords you have to enter, the slower the filter works… I suggest you don’t filter on the keywords.

  1. You will need to type the keyword in the filter box and then see the element button. The keyword will be shown for just a while.

There are multiple way to name the same element, we are trying to cover most of them by these keywords. User can find window element by "dialog", "frame" or "window" etc.

Oh, I see now.

I still don’t understand the point about these keywords.

Can you please explain why they are there?

  1. I see our explanation... I'm just not convinced that it is that useful. I may confuse more than it will help.
  2. It is useful because differnt users may use different terms. We can only choose one name for the element, but we can cover other names by keywords.
